Rumored contents of the New 8th Edition Warhammer Boxed Set (Updated: News and PICS!)

Avid HighElves.net reader Angelo has just shared some juicy news with us. I thought it warrants a post on its own! He heard that the Warhammer introductory box set between Skaven and High Elves will contain the following models or miniatures:

The new set will include the following miniatures:
High Elves:
*Prince on Griffon
*Mage on Foot
*20 Sea Guard
*10 Sword Masters of Hoeth (plastic)
*5 Ellyrian Reavers

-Skaven:
*Warlord
*Warlock
*40 Clan rats
*20 Plague Monks
*2 Rat Ogres with Pack master
*5 Poisoned Wind Globadiers
*Poisoned Wind Mortar
*Warpfire Thrower

Gotta Love the new Island of Blood!

Oh man! I’m so excited as well, I sincerely hope that there are some new High Elves models on the way. At least we know that the Swordmasters will be new as, if you believe in the rumor, they will come in plastic. Anyone want the Skaven models?

Thanks for sharing Angelo, and if you hear of anything else please do not hesitate to email me (loremaster [at] highelves.net) or leave a comment!

UPDATED!
The folks over at Warseer has updated this information with the following:

The release date seems to be 4th of September, with the price being £60/$99/€80.

Included are High Elves and Skaven, the contents seem to be:

One mage
One noble on griffon
10 Swordmasters with full command
10 Sea Guard with full command
5 Reavers

One warlord
One warlock engineer
20 Clanrats with handweapon and shield
20 Clanrats with spears and shield
One Warpfire Thrower
One Poisoned Wind Mortar
Two Rat Ogres with Master Moulder

This may or may not be everything for the models.

Other contents include templates, dice, and of course a small rulebook, including the full rules for WHF 8th.

~None of these are the current models from currently available sprues, not even the clanrats. The clanrats (read: not slave sprues) have fixed shields on 20 of them and I believe are 2-part models(like much of the box, thus very easy to assemble).
~The Reavers and the Griffon Rider have the legs sculpted onto the body of the mount but you could substitute and upper torso for conversion purposes quite easily (read: Dragon Princes, Empire/Bret heroes on griffons etc).
~The Reavers come pre-equipped with bows…they are part of the upper torso mold. Why? Im not sure, would make non-bow Reavers hard to WYSIWG for tournament purposes but the models are first class all the way.
~As I said most are 2-part models, easy to assemble and need minimal to no gap filling. (The griffon might need green stuff on the back for gap filling though to do up properly)
~The swordmasters have different head options, I counted at least 4 different types of “masks/helms”. One is sure to raise some eyebrows as it is a KKK-style hood (not that I care but might not want to paint it bright white?)
~The banners are “textured/raised” and are specific to the swordmasters and sea guard (someone posted pics from the UK? where the banners look switched), meaning you can spray, basecoat and drybrush for the “free hand” challenged among us. Someone can correct me, but this is only such type of banner I ever seen for Warhammer…a first?
~The skaven bits will be a goldmine for conversion types. Can do the rest of the weapon teams with only minimal conversion skill.
~Release was quoted as Sept 9th (perhaps that Saturday? dunno).
~Price was retail 99.00 US Dollars.
~I saw no other terrain bitz people are claiming in the box (no objective markers etc). There was some template stuff.

Now check out the AWESOME pictures!

Gosh, that Noble on a Griffin is sweet! I also like how the Reavers are looking as well. I’m not too crash hot on the Swordmasters as they are looking chunky, probably due to the constraints of multi-part design.

Hey loremaster, it’s Angelo, do you remember that Space Hulk thing as a ? mark thing before shown as it was? Yeh, There’s gonna be a new one being released during October, I’m not actually sure what this is, but i’ve heard that a new one is coming this year. Yes, Whoooo, How awesome.

Anyways, have a nice day , peace out, i’ll be finding some new things as much as I can.

By my experience during today at the workshop, i’ve found out you fight in 2 ranks, with spears, it’s 3 ranks of combat, with martial prowess, it equals 4 ranks, with lothern sea guard, you can stand and shoot with 2 ranks. Hellz yeah. It’s the same for normal shooting.

Magic works by having 2D6 to see the amount of yuor power dice, that’s all I know at this point in the Magic section.

Charging is resolved using 2D6 plus your movement, and that’s your charge range, you’re allowed to pre-measure, chariots and cavalry have 3D6 and you choose the highest 2 and add your movement.

So i’ll learn things alot more on wednesday, Oh, fear causes you to become WS1, so enjoy, take a lion standard aginst Zombies.

  3. Angelo, thanks for the updates on the rules. Do you know where High Elves can find the rules for Martial Prowess or our special army composition rules?
