Limited Edition Prince Althran on Foot!

To celebrate the Island of Blood global battle day on October 23rd 2010, Games Workshop is releasing a limited edition Prince Althran (ie the same Prince on the Griffin from the boxset) on foot. A must get just in case your mount gets shot out from under you.

The global battle day is when hobby shops and centers from all around the world host this historical battle with a global results tally. My prediction is a win for HE, of course!

The New High Elves Elite Models have Arrived!

I’m sure most of you would have seen this by now, but just in case, Games Workshop has released details of the new High Elves Elite models for their October’s High Elves focus. They are namely the Dragon Princes, Phoenix Guard and White Lions. Click on the images for a larger view.

Dragon Princes

The new DP models are really a hat tip to the original Dragon Princes from 4th or 5th Edition. In fact it looks like a mix of the this old edition and the sleeker more refined design of the recent addition. Like the new Reavers from the Island of Blood box set, the feet of the riders are molded in one piece with the horses.

I’m not 100% thrilled with the new design, it is very dynamic for sure, but from a distance it looks like Dragon Princes are sprouting tentacles. They will be a bitch to paint for sure. However I can see where they are coming from by making them look more like the dragons they are supposed to emulate.

Regardless, I’ll be getting my box set as I need to shore up my 5 DP from the previous edition. I’m just not sure if they match…

Check them out at the store!

White Lions

The White Lions are looking more dynamic as well, with the same walking or stomping posture as the original White Lion models. I’m not too fond of the long axe handles, which looks to me like they will be chopping each other and the enemy at the same time.

At this time, I don’t need any White Lions, so I will likely give them a pass, even though I have Korhill in a blister some where.

You can check them out at the store as well.

Phoenix Guard

I actually had high hopes for the Phoenix Guards, especially as I am thinking about getting a unit for my army. 4+ Ward save with always strike first makes them a anvil unit for sure. But this new design looks pretty static and a disappointment for sure. Think about it, if they could make Space Marines more dynamic, I don’t see why this can be the same. At least they lost the skirts! But in return it looks like they got Victorian dresses!

There are at the store as well.

What do you guys think of the new designs?

What the High Elves are getting in October 2010

I can’t wait! You have probably seen some of it by now, but I have listed them here for you just in case. The first quote is from the GW website, and the rest are from various sources.

With the new High Elves just around the corner and the imminent release (September 4th) of The Island of Blood (it contains lots of new High Elf miniatures), the question I’ve been asked the most over the last couple of weeks is ‘which High Elf units are staying the same and which ones are being replaced with a new kit?’ This morning I went in search of an answer. I journeyed to the heart of the Studio, past the cabinets of miniatures and gaming tables, beyond the ‘Eavy Metal area, through the games developers’ area, until I arrived at an ominous room marked ‘management’ (the risks I take for you). Once inside I presented my offering (a nice cup of tea) and emerged moments later with the answer. I’ve listed all of the plastic sets that won’t be changing below. The army book is not changing either. So now you can relax and get on with collecting your High Elf army.

High Elf Lord on Dragon
High Elf Prince and Noble
High Elf Mage
High Elf Spearmen
High Elf Archers
High Elf Chariot
High Elf Silver Helms
High Elf Repeater Bolt Thrower

Above quote from GW.

I’m a little disappointed that the Silver Helms, Spearmen and Archers are not being changed. This means the Lothern Sea Guard in the Island of Blood starter set has become much more desirable. I still feel like crushing my Silver Helms models…

What are we getting?

“This October is devoted to the scions of Asuryan, as we release a series of new High Elf miniatures.”

4 Plastic Box Sets.
White Lions, Dragon Princes and Phoenix Guard.

The fourth box is a new battalion, including 20 Archers, 20 Spearmen, a Repeater-Bolt-Thrower and a High Elf Chariot. Rumored Battalion Price: 90 €./$100/£55

2 Metal Box Sets – no solid indication what these are.

2 Blisters – GodlessM tells us one is a Prince on foot. This will be a metal sculpt of the very same prince as in Islands of Blood. His name is Althran Stormrider. Nothing on the second blister.

A Spell Cards deck similar to Daemons, Beastmen and the Basic Lores is confirmed.

I am looking forward to the Elites plastic box set. I need some Phoenix Guards and my Dragon Princes unit needs shoring up. Again no mention of Swordmasters, and again this means the SMs in the Island of Blood set will be sought after. Go Ebay go!

Bonus Rumor Edit: One of the Metal box sets seems to be Shadow Warriors.
